Research Interests: Doruk’s main focus is on numerical modeling of surface gravity waves and currents, especially to investigate their governing equations and underlying physical assumptions. This is to increase accuracy and efficiency of the operational models and thus enhance decision-making capabilities regarding coastal regions with improved forecasts. As part of the Cormorant Oceanography Project, he is responsible for running high-resolution coupled wave-current ocean model simulations on High Performance Computing (HPC) systems and make comparisons with the biologging data obtained by birds to target model shortcomings and correct them with the aid of statistical methods.
Project Roles: Numerical modeling, developing algorithms, data assimilation.
Expertise: Wave and hydrodynamic modeling, data visualization and analysis.
Education:
PhD – Coastal and Oceanographic Engineering, University of Florida, 2018
MS – Coastal and Port Engineering, University of North Florida, 2014
BSc – Civil Engineering, Boğaziçi University, Turkey, 2012
